Education

The Electrical and Computer Engineering Department encompasses a broad range of research and educational interests. It is the policy of the department to involve each faculty member in a balanced combination of research and teaching so as to fully benefit the students. A large number of our faculty has considerable industrial experience, and many maintain active consulting roles to provide current and relevant knowledge to the students in classroom and research settings.

Florida International University - Green Library

Florida International University (FIU) is an urban doctoral granting institution located in Miami with campuses at University Park and North Miami, and a third campus recently established housing the Center for Engineering and Applied Sciences. Chartered by the Florida Legislature in 1965, the University opened its doors in 1972. Twenty seven years later, FIU now offers more than 220 baccalaureate, master’s, and doctoral degree programs through its many Colleges and Schools. As FIU celebrates its 25th anniversary, enrollment is nearing the 30,000 mark, which is a significant increase from the 16,400 enrollment a decade ago. The number of faculty has reached 1,200, and sponsored research totaled close to 30 million dollars this past year. Women constitute 58% of the total student population. FIU is recognized as having the largest contingent of Hispanic students of any doctoral granting institution.

Within commuting distance of FIU are a wide range of family oriented communities, beach communities, and historic districts. Furthermore, Miami has positioned itself as the gateway to Latin America and the Caribbean countries, and is among the nation’s most dynamic and exciting communities with respect to cultural pluralism, beautiful climate, recreational activities, a diverse cultural life, and tourism.
